Thirty young music students from the North Lincolnshire Music Hub, including 12 from Sir John Nelthorpe School and the Vale Academy in Brigg, have been offered the opportunity to take part in a series of workshops leading to two concert performances at the Royal Albert Hall.
The students, aged 10 to 19, are working with talented composer and musical educationalist, Paul Griffiths, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to compose their own music piece based on the music of Indian musician and composer, Ravi Shankar.
The students will conclude their workshops in preparation for the big event and then continue to rehearse ahead of their performance to over 4,000 people in two concerts at 2pm and 6pm on Sunday 23 July.
The performance will be part of the BBC Proms 10 Pieces events, and the concert with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will include work by:
Beethoven, Elgar, Mozart and Ravi Shankar.
Cllr David Rose, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Learning at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is fantastic news for the North Lincolnshire Music Hub. The hub have built up a fantastic relationship with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and worked with them several times before on very successful educational music projects for young people.
"This is a really valuable opportunity and great experience for our young North Lincolnshire music students; it’s an experience that they will never forget. A huge congratulations and I wish them all the very best.”
