BRIGG TOWN CRICKETERS IN 'DERBY' CUP TIE AT MESSINGHAM

Brigg Town Cricket Club made the short trip to play Messingham 2nds yesterday (Saturday, May 6) at the village's well-appointed Northfield Road ground.
This was a first round tie in the Bob Welton Cup, organised by the Lincolnshire County Cricket League (sponsored by Readers).
The game went according to the form book, with second division Messingham comfortably defeating fourth division Brigg.
Having won the toss, the villagers elected to bat first and compiled 230 for six in their 45 overs.
Opener Max Metheringham batted right through to finish unbeaten on 69, while the hard-hitting Rob Talbot cracked 109 in the middle-order before being run out.

In the Brigg attack, Jack Richards took two for 29 and Phil Dewfall two for 30 - both sending down the maximum permitted nine overs.

After tea, Brigg were bowled out for 146 in the penultimate over, Karl Dixon leading the way with 57 and Tom Brock (pictured) - more renowned for his bowling - scoring 21 while opening the innings.
Also into double figures were all-rounder Richards, with 15, and Mark Cawkwell, who made 14.
The wickets were shared between six Messingham bowlers, the best figures being two for 20 in nine overs from James Taylor.
Brigg Town are without a fixture this coming Saturday (May 13).
