ADVANCE WARNING: BRIGG LINE TRAIN SERVICE TO BE SUSPENDED TEMPORARILY

Here's advanced notice that  no passenger trains will be serving Brigg on a forthcoming Saturday.
However, the good news is that improvements are being made to the Brigg Line's infrastructure.
Our thanks to rail campaigner Paul Johnson for flagging up the suspension of trains on Saturday, June 17, when a replacement bus service will substitute.
The line runs from Sheffield to Cleethorpes via Brigg, and Network Rail will be undertaking improvement work in South Yorkshire.
Trains will still run between Sheffield and Kiverton Park, but a bus will ferry passengers between Woodhouse and Cleethorpes via Brigg.
There's a bit of a bonus - FOUR bus journeys will replace the usual THREE train trips along the length of the line.
Buses will leave Brigg in the Cleethorpes direction at 9.15am, 10.28am, 2.30pm and 6.30pm.
Buses will leave Brigg for the Sheffield area at 10.45am, 2.50pm, 6.30pm and 7.35pm.
Paul Johnson told Brigg Blog: "Coaches will pick up/drop off at the station entrance (if gates are open) or Station Road, if not."
He has kindly forwarded a useful graphic (below) produced by Lee Render to show the times. Click on the image to take a close look.
Also note that travellers in Barnetby and Kirton Lindsey will need to board the bus, rather than the train, on June 17.
The monthly Brigg Farmers' Market  is not until the following Saturday, June 24.

  2. Despite the extended journey times this substitute bus service actually presents one or two opportunities not possible with the normal train service. As seen from the handbill reproduced above a long day in Lincoln is possible to which there is little to add but a connection also exists at Barnetby off the slightly earlier 17.22 from Lincoln. The big one off opportunity from this is around six hours in Nottingham by taking the Lincoln service shown and changing there into the 10.36 departure which arrives in Nottingham at 11.31. Return from Nottingham is 17.29 arriving at Lincoln 18.23, in time to connect with the 18.35 to Barnetby. The fare, valid only on these particular trains, is just £12.60 off peak return and even less with a railcard.
