BRIGG CRICKETERS OPEN THEIR CAMPAIGN

Brigg Town Cricket Club did not enjoy the best of starts to the season in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League, sponsored by Readers.
Saturday saw Brigg visiting the Immingham Blossom Way ground to take on Cleethorpes 4ths in a division four fixture.
Town were short of runs and paid the penalty, losing by seven wickets.
The top five Brigg batsmen managed only 12 runs between them, but Mark Cawkwell (25) and Karl Dixon (34) improved things in the middle-order and Nick Beacock added 11 before being bowled by Jeff Todd, the former Lincolnshire Minor Counties player.
However, Brigg had to be content with a moderate total of 95.
There seemed some hope when Phil Dewfall and Nigel Beacock dismissed the Cleethorpes openers.
But the only other wicket Brigg managed came from Paul Neal,  as the home side clinched a seven-wicket win after 31 overs.
Brigg journey deep into the Isle of Axholme this Saturday (April 29) to take on Haxey 2nds who were also beaten at the weekend.
