BRIGG STATION WELCOMES MORE PASSENGERS

 

More people have been using Brigg railway station's passenger trains, latest figures show.
Brigg Line campaigner Paul Johnson tells us the Office of Road and Rail Regulation has now published estimated passenger numbers for April 2015 to April 2016, compared to those for the corresponding period from April 2014 to April 2015.
The latest figures show Brigg having 1,172 passengers, compared with  1,000 the year before.
That's a noticeable increase and Brigg Blog is sure the hard work done by Paul, and other rail supporters, in terms of marketing, publicity and generally spreading the word, has played a significant part.
Sadly, Brigg station only sees passenger trains on Saturdays - three each way to Sheffield and to Grimsby/Cleethorpes.
Paul has studied the latest data for stations in South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and northern Lincolnshire and  a number of others are losing passengers.
Barnetby's decreased year-on-year from 67,242 to 64,576, Grimsby Town station's use went down from 451,658 to 422,136, while Cleethorpes saw a reduction in passenger journeys from 259,844 to 269,992.
However, Paul points out that Grimsby and Cleethorpes suffered through cancellation of services along the line to/from Barton.
Next stop from Brigg, Kirton Lindsey station saw annual passenger numbers rise from 162 to 200.
