Could your lucky numbers come up in the North Lincolnshire lottery?
North Lincolnshire Council has announced plans that could see a community lottery launched in our area that will help support community projects.
Tickets for the North Lincolnshire Community Lottery would be bought online for £1 and the proceeds would be split between the prize fund, local community projects, and the operational costs of the lottery.
Depending on the take-up of the scheme and the number of tickets sold, the lottery could see prizes up for grabs of up to £25,000!
Around 60 per cent of the money raised from ticket sales from a North Lincolnshire Community Lottery would go directly to fund projects in our community. This is more than double the percentage given to good causes by the National Lottery.
The council will appoint an External Lottery Manager to run the lottery on our behalf, in accordance with the Gambling Act 2005.
Coun Richard Hannigan, Cabinet Member for Governance and Transformation at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Setting up a lottery is a prime example of how North Lincolnshire Council is thinking outside the box to come up with innovative new ways of delivering services to meet our future needs and adapt to the changing face of local government.
“A number of councils in the country have started their own community lotteries – including Aylesbury Vale District Council, Portsmouth City Council and Melton Mowbray Borough Council. These lotteries are proving to be popular and beneficial to the local community.
“We are in the very early stages of setting up a community lottery in North Lincolnshire but it is an exciting prospect for our community and we are keen to explore this opportunity.”
