'HIGH' TIME FOR A BRIGG SCHOOL REUNION

Brigg Girls' High School was founded 80 years ago - the foundation stone being laid in 1936. We'd overlooked this milestone until walking past what is now Sir John Nelthorpe Lower School, off Wrawby Road, yesterday afternoon and spotting the date recorded on the front of the building.
Brigg Girls' High School was officially opened, with due ceremony, on November 2, 1937.
A reunion might be in order next autumn. Perhaps the Briggensians' Association, representing former pupils and staff of Brigg Girls' High, Brigg Grammar and SJN, has this in mind.
We seem to recall that there was a 70th anniversary get-together.
Brigg Girls' High School closed in 1976 when Sir John Nelthorpe School was launched under the transition to comprehensive education undertaken after Humberside County Council took over from Lindsey (Lincolnshire).
Just a reminder that Sir John Nelthorpe School, with future intake of pupils in mind, will be holding a Year Six Open Evening on Wednesday, September 21, at the Wrawby Road site, from 6pm to 8pm. Find out more at www.sirjohnnelthorpe.co.uk or call 01652 656551.
