More than 14,000 spectators were on track for an evening which featured a concert by chart topper Jess Glynne after the racing.
As gates opened on Saturday only a few tickets for the Lawn Enclosure remained, with both the County Stand and Tattersalls sold out. Almost all of those attending were at the racecourse before racing began in the late afternoon.
Nadia Gollings, General Manager, Market Rasen Racecourse, said: “It is thrilling that so many thousands of people came to the racecourse for Saturday’s horse racing and the Jess Glynne concert.
“We have produced crowds of around 13,000 before, and Betfred Summer Plate & Lincs FM Ladies’ Day last month was just short of 11,000, but this surpassed our expectations.
“It is great that we can attract such a brilliant singer as Jess Glynne because it brings in a whole new audience.
“Most of the crowd were new race-goers. We really encouraged them to come for the racing and not just the music. I would say that 90 per cent were here before the first race and the atmosphere was fantastic.
“The crowd came from far afield, not just many, many Lincolnshire people but also from Nottingham, Manchester and Leeds. We hope lots of them return for some of our other racing fixtures. They certainly enjoyed a good evening’s racing with the champion jump jockey Richard Johnson in excellent form with two winners.”
First coming into the public consciousness as the vocalist on Clean Bandit’s Grammy Award winning and #1 hit ‘Rather Be’, Jess Glynne has become one of the biggest UK breakthrough acts of recent years. Her number-one charting debut album, ‘I Cry When I Laugh’, turned double platinum in the UK. She is also only the second British female solo artist after Cheryl to have five number-one singles in the UK.
Then singer is donating a portion of her fee to equine charity, Retraining of Racehorses, which Jockey Club Live is matching.
Market Rasen Racecourse is now into its late summer break, with the next fixture coming up on Saturday, 24th September. More information is available at www.marketrasenraces.co.uk
