Aldi is seeking permission for the demolition of existing buildings and the erection of a retail unit, with car parking, landscaping and associated works at its chosen site off Bridge Street.
The location is opposite the Island Carr junction and close to Cake Mills Bridge which carries the A18 over the New River Ancholme.
Brigg Town Council supports the proposal but is asking North Lincolnshire planners to consider provision of the following, at the developer's expense:
- Pedestrian refuges on Island Carr Road & Bridge Street
- A zebra crossing on the new store access road
- Limit the exit from Waters Edge to a left turn only.
The Historic Environment Record team for North Lincolnshire, consulted because Aldi's site is near the 19th century stone bridge, has also raised no objections, concluding that because of a relatively low level and mono-pitch roof, the planned new building would not stand out predominately in the listed bridge's surroundings.
