WHAT CAN BRIGG DO TO ATTRACT MORE SATURDAY VISITORS?

A busy July Brigg Farmers' Market - the next will be held in the Market Place on Saturday, July 23, 2016. Picture on Nigel Fisher's Brigg Blog

It's proving to be another busy day for the Saturdays-only passenger train service along the Brigg railway line.
The first train of the day, from Sheffield to Cleethorpes, left Brigg at 0924am FULL, rail campaigner Paul Johnson kindly reported on Twitter.
People will be heading to the east coast resort to enjoy Cleethorpes Carnival, no doubt, and take in the sand, arcades and renowned chippies.
The recent Armed Forces Weekend at Cleethorpes also saw large numbers of passengers using the Brigg line, with extra carriages  added to the trains.
What we need now is more people using the railway to come to Brigg, rather than passing through or leaving our town to head east for a day out.
Clearly, Brigg must offer attractions for Saturday visitors thinking of taking the train to come here from elsewhere.
Farmers' market once a month should be a draw - the next being on Saturday, July 23. But we could do with more than that.
A tour of Brigg pubs - either with a guide or an information sheet visitors could consult? Special offers available at Brigg restaurants, cafes and other eateries?
Your answers please on a (non-seaside) postcard!

  1. ....someone mentioned to me recently that someone was operation Round the Island boat trip from the White Hart steps...?£2..during the last Farmers' Market.
I understand that other trips are planned during this month's FM.
I'm surprised that such trips were not particularly advertised, although from a photo I've seen, the boat appears to be the same boat, Firefly, that offered similarly trip a decade, or so ago.
It would be useful to have more info about such....

  2. No 2....Ensure that Brigg events are effectively advertised....the present system(s) ain't working...
Suggest strategically placed notice boards about town - would offer recognised points for gaining info forthcoming events...
Electronic notice board promoting events - time and dates..

  3. The situation will always been the same until the station area is redeveloped in the future, first impressions count when it comes to selling a place and when customers on the train heading to Cleethorpes see a station area full of mess and flytipping they will be thinking were not coming to visit here.

Brigg Town Partnership have been aware many times that we have permission to place banners/adverts on the metal fence at Brigg station to advertise events, this has never been taken up so the ball is in the community of Brigg court to advertise these events.
