LIGHTING AMENDMENTS APPROVED FOR BRIGG RECREATION GROUND REVAMP

Major re-development of Brigg Recreation Ground, off Wrawby Road, is now well under way and should be completed towards the end of this year.
New all-weather facilities are being provided, together with replacement changing accommodation.
The latest step in this ambitious project  involved obtaining planning permission for amended floodlighting, which has now been granted.
It was necessary to alter the lighting specification of the hockey pitch, previously approved in 2014, to raise the Lux levels "to comply with English Hockey guidance."
Meanwhile, a planning condition specifies when hockey and tennis will be permitted on the newly-built facilities.
The condition says the hockey pitch and tennis courts, including floodlighting, may only be used between the following hours:

  • Monday to Saturday inclusive: 8am to 10pm.
  • Sundays and public holidays: 8am to 8pm.

The reason is "to safeguard the amenity of neighbouring residential properties."
A report compiled by North Lincolnshire Council staff recommended the 'hours of operation'  included in the planning condition.
The report concluded: "The changes to the layout and intensity of the external lighting for the hockey pitch are not considered to result in loss of residential amenity through light disturbance, particularly as the separation distance to the nearest property is 78m."
Consulted on the application, Brigg Town Council told planners it was keen to ensure lighting did not create a nuisance for neighbouring properties.
