A list from North Lincolnshire Council showing events arranged for the Queen's 90th birthday does not include any in Brigg.
The council says more than £12,000 has been awarded to community groups across the district to help them celebrate with a wide range of events.
North Lincolnshire Council set up a funding pot for the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations and 54 community groups have applied for a slice of this money to help them put on their celebration events.
Right across North Lincolnshire, events will be taking place in local communities – everything from tea dances to street parties.
Some of the events include a tea party in Barnetby, a rock n roll afternoon in Bottesford, a birthday tea party held by the 10th Scunthorpe Cubs and Beavers, a fun day in East Butterwick, a tea dance in Goxhill and a street party and beer festival in Scawby.
On top of all the celebration events, commemorative mugs are being created; there will be a brass band concert and tree planting to mark this milestone for the Queen.
In addition to this, the Mayor of North Lincolnshire, Coun Helen Rowson, will be lighting a celebration beacon at Normanby Hall Country Park on Thursday 21 April at 7.30pm.
Baroness Liz Redfern, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “I have been amazed by the amount of applications we have received from local community groups. There are some wonderful events and celebrations planned across the whole of North Lincolnshire for the Queen’s birthday. It is the perfect opportunity for communities to come together and mark this special occasion.”
Of course, there's nothing to stop Brigg people and groups from holding street parties and other events, without financial aid from North Lincolnshire Council's community pot. We are sure there will be some held.
What's happened to the red, white and blue swag and tail decoration, made by Jalaurs and which hung over the Angel balcony a couple of years ago - during the Diamond Jubilee?
ReplyDeleteDespite the decoration being reusable, it is claimed that it has now disappeared.
If that is the case, someone should know its whereabouts...it'large and colourful...not the sort of thing that goes unnoticed...and Brigg wants it back.
Apologies to the creative ladies of Jaylaurs for misspelling your name...sheer act of laziness on my part..
