If you are planning to visit either of the town centre bookies in Brigg to have a flutter on what's now called the Crabbie's Grand National, before you do so take a look at this video footage of when a horse linked with our town won the great race
Another horse of local interest, Glandford Brigg, finished eighth in 1975 Grand National.
L'Escargot won that year, with the great Red Rum finishing second.
Today's Grand National begins at 5.15pm so there's still plenty of time to have a flutter.
Many people only bet once a year and it's on this race over the famous Aintree course.
Why don't we revert to the town being called Glandford Brigg....it will certainly create an improved image of the town.
ReplyDeleteWhen I go to a 5* hotel in London, I can say (in me posh voice) that I live in 'GLANDFORD Brigg' It sounds dead important and I could get an extra slice of pudding..
ps If Brigg was in Belgium, it would be called Brugge..
