PADDLE POWER ON THE RIVER ANCHOLME IN BRIGG

There used to be a popular song about messing about on the river. Sorry, we can't recall who had a hit with it.
In Brigg today, well wrapped up against the mid-March weather, we spied some hardy canoeists as we walked over the County Bridge.
They appeared to have started out from the HQ of Ancholme Rowing Club, which is based on Manley Gardens.

  1. I remember singing a version in my early teens..circa early 60's..when taking me girlfriends on a boating lake in Stanley Park...the park that separates Anfield from Godison Pk..
I think the tune was composed by Tony Hatch...the same guy who composed the Corrie signature tune...a programme that had just started on TV.
In addition, Terry Jones, as Toad, sang a completely different song in a version of Toad of Toad Hall/Wind in the Willows about ?20 years ago...
