Dead seriously, Nige...the Christmas festive period is 12 days....so if the Crimbo lights are left on beyond this time they are called just Lights!
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit like calling a fly without wings - Walk..
The town could call the post-Christmas lights after other events....for example, we could have January Sales Lights...even Ken's Birthday Lights (4 Feb) - that would remind folks to buy me lots of pressies.
It all depends on how long the lights-on extension will.......there could be a Titanic Sinking Day Lights if the period was stretched to mid April...
The Council could really cash in on these non-Christmas lights....they could attract sponsorship from local businesses - ie Grandad Shed Lights......and as a balance, other sponsors could finance Lights Off days.
In true spirit of Capitalism...even the local traffic lights could be sponsored....Based upon Adam Smith's Supply & Demand model, motorists could buy Red, or Green shares...and depending on the volume of respective sales, the timing sequence will be determined by local demand. I'm sure this will fit neatly in the governments Locality Bill by evolving power to the people....and I even may get a knighthood, eh, Nige.
