Robin Hood limbers up for the Brigg 10k in aid of local sports stars

FROM THE NOTTINGHAM BUILDING SOCIETY

The Nottingham Building Society’s Brigg branch is in training, along with colleagues across the region, to take part in Brigg’s 10k run next month.
The Brigg branch, will be raising funds for charity SportsAid to support local waterskiing star, Jack Cricthley. The 18 year-old from Scunthorpe took up the sport along with his older brothers and now regularly travels abroad to train and compete representing his country.
The team donated £750 to Jack at the beginning of the year which they hope to top up to £1,000 through fundraising.  All money will go towards supporting Jack’s travel to help him gain international experience, increase his rankings and achieve his ambition of winning a senior title.
‘Team Nottingham’ will also feature staff from across the region who will be raising money for other local sports stars, many of whom will have the Tokyo Olympics and even Rio 2016 in their sights.
Branch Manager, Tracey Bendon says: ‘I am really pleased to announce that we have also persuaded ‘Robin Hood’ to have a break from archery and join us in our fundraising endeavours for SportsAid!’
The society’s mascot has been a firm favourite at a number of events over the last few years and for the Brigg 10k will be donned by local triathlete Phil Binch who Tracey roped into helping out.
Phil, who is a Product Manager at the society’s headquarters in Nottingham, added ‘I have been wanting to take part in a mascot race for a while so when Tracey put it to me, I just couldn’t say no although I have a feeling it will be a little different to the usual endurance challenges I take part in!
‘SportsAid are a fantastic charity that do so much for local emerging sporting talent so I am pleased to be helping athletes like Jack on their journey.’
The Nottingham Building Society are providing awards to 50 athletes across the Midlands and South Yorkshire including five in Lincolnshire;
Zac Shaw (19) para-athlete from Grimsby
Tom Jarvis (15) table tennis player from Skegness
Amber Moss (17) fencer from Louth
Hayley Milne (15) para-swimmer from Grantham
Mark Conway (35) para-triathlete from North Hykeham
