BRIGG YOUNGSTERS CAN PUT ON THEIR DANCING SHOES

Coun Carl Sherwood

Former Brigg Town Mayor Coun Carl Sherwood has welcomed an initiative which offers Brigg youngsters the chance to take part in dancing projects, though they will have to travel out of town.
North Lincolnshire Council says that as part of the South Bank Dance project, amazing opportunities have come up for young people in Northern Lincolnshire.
The first  comes from Elements Contemporary Youth Dance Company. It is looking for new members and will be holding free open auditions in Scunthorpe.
The auditions will be held at John Leggott College, Scunthorpe, on 24 September, 1, 8 and 15 October from 5pm to 6.30pm for any young person aged between 11 and 21.
All auditions will need to be attended. There's no need to book, just turn up to the first audition. A parental consent form will need to be completed to attend the rest of the auditions.
The second opportunity is during October school half term for young people to complete a qualification in dance leadership.
Level 1 Award in Dance Leadership is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful learners to lead small groups in simple dance activities whilst under the direct supervision of their tutor/assessor or other suitably qualified adult.
This fun and practical qualification teaches generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through dance.
It is open to any young person aged 13 and above. The course will run from 26 to 30 October from 10am to 3pm each day at Oasis Academy Wintringham, Weelsby Avenue, Grimsby. There will be a small participation fee of £5 per person.
Young people who would like to complete the dance leadership course should complete an application form. The application form is available from: www.northlincs.gov.uk/tourism-museums-and-the-arts/the-arts/get-involved/south-bank-dance-hub/

South Bank Dance is a £100,000 project, which is a partnership between several organisations from the arts, sports and education sectors, led by North Lincolnshire Council and Lincs Inspire Ltd. It is a Dance Hub is for young people across North and North East Lincolnshire.
This two year project that will:

  • build on previous work;
  • developing talent and quality at every level of dance, including four professional dance residencies;
  • strengthen the boys dance sector;
  • offer more grass roots dance opportunities for young people; and
  • provide dance provision as part of the council’s Active Together programme.

Coun Carl Sherwood, North Lincolnshire Council's Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Sport and Leisure, said: “These are two brilliant opportunities; young people who have a passion for dancing will be able to further themselves and improve their skills.  The South Bank Dance project aims to improve the dancing opportunities in our area and get more young people involved in dancing. We want to make sure that people have opportunities on their doorsteps and not have to travel far. If you already have a love of dancing or would like to start dancing, then this project will have something for you.”
