BRIGG FOLK TO ENJOY TRIP TO THE RACES AND BEER FESTIVAL

Many people from the Brigg area like to visit meetings at the Market Rasen Course, which is within easy driving distance. There's another on the way this coming weekend...
The jump racing season in Britain steps up a gear on Saturday when Market Rasen Racecourse hosts its annual Racing FX Prelude Raceday.
The races are by far the most valuable jumps contests staged anywhere in the country this month, with a total prize fund in excess of £100,000.
To add to the enjoyment of visitors to the Lincolnshire track, there is also a Beer Festival.
The major race on Saturday is the Listed Racing FX Prelude Chase - and there are two significant challengers from the north of England. The Nicky Richards-trained Gold Futures won two races over hurdles at Market Rasen last year, while Malcolm Jefferson's Oscar Rock could still be destined for the top after a promising start to his career two years ago.
One man with a great record at the racecourse is Welsh trainer Peter Bowen. He has entered Lamboro Lad who could be ridden by his son and Market Rasen Racecourse's ambassador, teenage jockey Sean Bowen.
One of the feature races of Summer Plate and Ladies' Day in July is the Betfred Summer Hurdle. The winner two months ago was Gran Maestro and he may go for a big race double in Saturday's Listed Racing FX Prelude Hurdle that was last achieved in 2012 by Local Hero, trained by Steve Gollings in Lincolnshire.
Gran Maestro is from the stables of 2014 Crabbie's Grand National-winning trainer Dr Richard Newland who has an enviable record of success in Market Rasen's major races.
An interesting entry to oppose Dr Newland's horse is Swansea Mile, until recently trained in Ireland and a winner at this summer's Killarney Festival. The horse is now at the stables of Dan Skelton in England. A possible Irish raider is Queen Alphabet.
Nadia Gollings, General Manager, Market Rasen Racecourse, said: "The entries for Saturday's feature races are excellent and we're set for a cracking day's sport. Our annual Racing FX Prelude Meeting is always an indicator that the major part of the jump racing season is approaching. We're also pleased to be hosting our Beer Festival on Saturday which will be an added attraction for our visitors."
Admission on Saturday, 26th September for adults is from £7.50 in advance. Accompanied under 18s enter free of charge. To buy tickets call the hotline on 0844 579 3009 or go online at http://marketrasen.thejockeyclub.co.uk The first race is due off at 1.40pm; gates open two hours earlier.
Meanwhile, the racecourse is delighted to have been shortlisted for a national award for the excellent way in which owners and their horses are looked after when they visit. The five racecourses in contention, which include York, were chosen by members of the Racehorse Owners' Association. The award will be announced in November.
