BRIGG WILD FLOWER AREA

FROM BRIGG TOWN BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP

On a bright and sunny Tuesday morning on 5th May, starting at 10.00am, a group of Brigg Rotarians and members of Brigg Business Partnership supported by North Lincolnshire Council Neighbourhood Services, Rural Section began an exciting and visionary project to develop an extended wild flower area beside the newly built footpath that will eventually go to South Ferriby.
North Lincolnshire Council has kindly agreed to cut back the wildflowers in September so next year will be even better!
The first section that was planted is between the River and Lidl’s Store.
This sowing is part of the UK’s biggest ever wild flower campaign which is hoping to create over one million square meters of colour during the summer of 2015.
The seeds have been provided by the Big Lottery and led b the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
Any community group can apply for the seeds and further information can be found on growwilduk.com website.
Jane Kitching, Vice Chair of Brigg Business Partnership said “How grateful the Partnership was for the support given by members of their Committee, the Council and the Rotary Club of Brigg for this venture and really was looking forward to a wonderful yearly bloom of wild flowers which will gradually extend along the new river path”
Malcolm Bailey, Chair of Brigg Town Business Partnership would like to thank Halyna Deboer of North Lincolnshire Council and her staff who have helped make this happen.
Also Brigg Rotary for their support and, particularly Chris Darlington.
Special thanks must also go to Councillor Rob Waltham for his determination to see the on going project of improving the river path through.
