  1. TV nostalgia, eh!
The 1950's were my prepubescent days; only interested in wimmem folk for being the mechanical propulsion for me go-cart.
Some programmes stand out....The Army Game ...The Adventures of Robin Hood - 'Robin Hood, Robin Hood riding in the glen...(repeat) Loved by the good, feared by the bad - Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood' - then there was a twang as the arrow embedded itself in a tree..!!
How about the hit & miss programme - the original Juke Box Jury? Billy Bunter - Whack-O! - Emergency Ward 10 - the more serious, What's My Line? in which someone enters, does a funny action and the panel had to guess what job the person did...then there was the first ITV ad - Gibbs SR - showing a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste in a cube of ice......Rag, Tag and Bobtail...the Epilogue - the National Anthem - the fading spot as the telly is turned off at 10.30pm, if not before.
Then there was the Test Card....the 'Interlude' sequels of the kitten with the ball of wool - the potter's wheel. the windmill.......
One was posh if you had a 12" screen. No colour...but even snooker matches were televised... Not forgetting, The Grove Family - Tony Hancock - and 'Children's Hour' rotating around the Alexandra Palace's mast just before the kid's programmes started at 5pm - off at 6pm..... on again at 7.30 with the News and serious programme stuff, often introduced by Richard Dimbleby....and how about the spaghetti tree spoof one April Fool's Day?
These were the pre-Beatle days - Alma Googan, Billy Fury, Tommy Steel.....Wilfred Pickles, Gilbert Harding, ...The Lady & The Tramp...the Student Prince - ?Ivor Norvello...door commissionaires with medals and stripes.....policemen wearing shoulder capes when it rained...Zebra Crossings......and the very serious public road safety adverts on telly 'Don't Dazzle other Drivers'..and the other about using a hankie when you sneeze....really dead good advice for us little snotty kids...
