Here's a picture of one of the finger posts in Brigg town centre to which we made reference in a recent post.
The Town Council is looking at replacement and possible purchase of new finger signs, in conjuction with 20/20 Vision.
This one is on Wrawby Street, close to the White Horse pub/restaurant and the A18 bus stop.
There are others.
It's interesting to note sponsorship came from the Scunthorpe Telegraph many years ago.
As the post pictured here is so close to the new JD Wetherspoon outlet, how about asking the pub chain to chip in if more finger posts are felt necessary?
B4 we spend money on these signs, perhaps we should analyse the purpose of these finger-posts and are they value for money.
ReplyDeleteFor example, is Brigg's geography so complicated that the signs are helpful in pointing out predominantly council premises? Do visitors actually use them? Or are they there to create an olde worlde image for the town?
If it is assumed that they help visitors, then why has it taken years for someone to respond to the well-acknowledged fact that many of the fingers point in the wrong direction.....!
Should the Council consider spending money on perhaps more effective and better value for money....such things as electronic displays of forthcoming Brigg events?
Personally, I feel that the finger posts are serving the purpose of little more than making the town look pretty.....and, apart from realigning the finger pointers with the simple use of a spanner, any additional cash should be spent on more productive methods of promoting the town.
