BRIGG 'FIRSTS' IN THE '60s - A TRIP DOWN RETAIL MEMORY LANE

It's now 50 years since we bought our first football boots. This momentous sporting moment (?) took place in Wrawby Street, Brigg - we think at Walker's shop. These were for use at Brigg Rec, where Glebe Road school had its "games" lessons, house and school games.
That set us thinking about other personal 'firsts' connected with town businesses.
Chewing gum & sweets: Ernie Robinson's, Grammar School Road (we were then living nearby in Woodbine Grove prefabs. Remember them?).
Cream cakes & penny bread loaves: Bowen's Bakery, Grammar School Road.
Dinky toys: Ernie Taylor's, Wrawby Street.
Flavoured crisps: Jack Clark's Grammar School tuck shop.
Bike: Bennett's, Wrawby Street.
Magazines: W H Smith, Wrawby Street.
Chips: Coun Jack Wattam's, Wrawby Street (a rare treat after Friday night choir practice at St John's Church).
Beatles' souvenir cards: Gray's, Glebe Road.
Comics: Richardson's, Wrawby Street.
Model railway items: Sherwood's, Bridge Street.
Saturday afternoon 'Pictures': The Grand Cinema, Wrawby Street.
Fireworks: Tierney's, Wrawby Street.

All those  have now departed the Brigg retail scene with the exception of Sherwood's. There's still a convenience shop where Mrs Gray and staff once served sweets to Brigg County Primary School pupils before and after educational hours. However, it has changed hands and been altered many times since the 1960s.
If you are of a certain age,  try filling in your own answers to the above categories and see how many match up with Brigg Blog's.
