SUMMER READING CHALLENGE BACKED BY FORMER BRIGG TOWN MAYOR

Children and young people are being encouraged to take part in the 2014 Summer Reading Challenge between 12 July and 6 September in all North Lincolnshire libraries, including the one in Brigg.

This year’s theme is challenging children and young people aged four years-old and above to enter the ‘Mythical Maze’ – a labyrinth with fantastical creatures from legends mythology.

They are invited to join in the challenge and read at least six books and share their experiences with library staff during the summer holidays.  There will be stickers to collect, small prizes and a certificate on the way to receiving a special medal.

It is the sixteenth Summer Reading Challenge that North Lincolnshire Library Services has taken part in.

The Challenge aims to promote enjoyment of reading for pleasure and create a real buzz around children’s reading to get more children and young people reading regularly.

Families that have taken part in previous reading challenges told the Library Service they enjoyed taking part, the challenge really encouraged them to read more widely and try new things and they enjoyed sharing books together.

In 2013 1,318 children in North Lincolnshire took part; of those 678 were awarded a medal for their achievements. This means that thousands of books were read throughout the Challenge.

If you would like your child/children to take part in this year’s fantastic Summer Reading Challenge then visit your local library from Saturday 12 July.

The Reading Challenge at Haxey Library and Goxhill Community Library is from 14 July to 5 September.

The Summer Reading Challenge is produced by The Reading Agency and delivered by libraries across the country.
