BRIGGSTOCK LAUNCH PARTY AT BRIGG PUB

Enjoy the launch party being held on Wednesday, June 4 for the Briggstock Music Festival. It's at the Britannia pub in Wrawby Street, from 8pm. Entry is free. The post above shows who's performing.
Briggstock will be on Saturday, August 30, from 10.30am to 5.30pm.  The main stage will be in the Market Place, with busking stations throughout the town centre.  Make a date in your diary, mobile phone, etc.

On Friday 6 June, from  7pm, there will be an Old Time Music Hall staged by Brigg Amateur Social Historians - better known as BASH - at Brigg Servicemen’s Club, Coney Court. Tickets £7.50 including buffet. 

BRIGG STAFF BIKING 145 MILES FOR WORTHY CAUSE

Staff from Thomas Bell in Brigg will be biking 145 miles to man their stand at Cereals - The Arable Event on June 11 and 12.
They have already raised £1,355 and are on track to meet the fundraising target of £2,000 which will directly benefit the Lincolnshire Rural Support Network, known as LRSN.

BRIGG BEAUTY BUSINESS APPLICATION APPROVED

Planning permission for change of use to a beauty salon has been granted for a  detached property in Brigg by North Lincolnshire Council.
Planners have given the go-ahead for 9 Bigby Street.
The application was submitted by Claire Boothby, of Time For You at nearby 1A Elwes Street.

PLANNERS CONSIDER DEVELOPMENT ON BRIGG PUB SITE

Development is planned behind a Brigg pub.
Planning permission is being sought for change of use of outbuildings  at the Nelthorpe Arms,  to the rear of the property, off Bridge Street.
The proposed new use is what the planners call B1 - business, offices, research and development of products and processes, light industry.
The application has been submitted to North Lincolnshire Council by Harriton Berracha Ltd.
The pub is currently closed and boarded up.

OLD BRIGG COTTAGES TO BE CONVERTED

Listed building consent and planning permission have been granted for surviving old cottages in Brigg town centre.
North Lincolnshire planners have approved alterations in connection with the conversion of two cottages into one dwelling. The location is to the rear of 18 Wrawby Street. 
These are two of the last remaining examples of the type of housing occupied by Brigg people from the 18th century through to the first half of the 20th.
However, most of the old courts were cleared progressively from the early 20th century, things really gathering pace when the Newlands estate was created in the 1930s.
The cottages that are the subject of the planning application have not been lived in since the early 1950s and were later used for storage purposes by a local business.
The application to do something useful with the two cottages was submitted by Brigg man John Mundey.
You can view the cottages through a gated archway off Wrawby Street (near Sankey's and and Newell's shops) or by looking down Chapel Court, near the Old Courts Road car park.

BRIGG BUTTERCROSS - OLD BUILDING, NEW WEDDING VENUE

Our thanks to Coun Rob Waltham for sending us these pictures of the first floor function room at Brigg Buttercross which now has a new role -  wedding venue. 
The historic grade two listed landmark in the Market Place recently staged its first wedding since being licensed for this purpose.
North Lincolnshire Council owns and operates the Buttercross and has undertaken refurbishment of the premises, including providing a lift to the first floor. 
Brigg Town Council's nearby Angel Suite is available for after-wedding functions and happy couples can now get a package involving the Buttercross and the Angel.

HIBALDSTOW v BRIGG TOWN - FIGURES CROSSED FOR SOME FINE WEATHER

Having been rained off without a ball being bowled last Saturday, Hibaldstow and Brigg Town are to have another go at playing their Lincolnshire County Cricket League George Marshall Trophy first round tie.
The new date is Sunday, June 1, starting at 1.30pm. 
Brigg play in division four and their opponents in division two.

BRIGG FOOD BANK RECEIVES LLOYDS BANK SUPPORT

Staff at Lloyds Bank in Wrawby Street, Brigg, presented a cheque for £127.49p to Brigg Food Bank. Branch manager Peter Briggs is second left and Father Dominic O'Connor, the Food Bank treasurer, extreme right. 
Staff pedalled hard on a static cycle to raise money, while customers also chipped in donations.

WRAWBY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE RECEIVES CENTENARY BATON FROM BRIGG

A celebration lunch was held at  The Jolly Miller after Wrawby WI had received the Centenary Baton from Brigg WI on Sunday (25 May).   The Baton is touring the UK and being passed on from branch to branch on its journey.

BRIGG HANDS OVER CENTENARY BATON TO WRAWBY

The Women's Institute Centenary Baton - marking 100 years of the movement - came to Brigg on Sunday morning. Late in the afternoon it was handed over to Wrawby WI beside the A18 - close to the boundary between our town and the village. Our thanks to Ken Harrison for taking the picture. Tomorrow, Brigg Blog will bring you pix of the baton during its stay in Wrawby.

KEYO BRIGG BOMBER QUADRATHLON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2014 - A GREAT TEAM EFFORT

Everyone who played a part in staging the Keyo Brigg Bomber Quadrathlon World Championships 2014 should feel very proud of their efforts on Sunday, May 25. 

Lincsquad www.lincsquad.co.uk organised the first world championships ever to be staged in the Brigg area and their members worked tirelessly on the swimming, 10k run, cycling and kayak sections held on the River Ancholme and roads in the Brigg area, going out as far as Waddingham, Redbourne and Hibaldstow.

They were assisted by volunteers, including marshals. Local firm Keyo was  the main event sponsor and there was also financial assistance from North Lincolnshire Council, Brigg Town Council and others. Members of the Brigg Town Business Partnership also gave support on the day.
The swim was sponsored by Zone3, the kayak section by the King William IV pub in Scawby Brook, the cycling by Claud Butler,  and the 10k by Simply Running of Hull.

It was a memorable event, much enjoyed by the competitors and the spectators. Pictured above is the front cover of the impressive souvenir programme.

ANCHOLME RIVER FESTIVAL IN BRIGG - MAY 2014 - PICTURES BY KEN HARRISON

The Ancholme River Festival was held in Brigg on Saturday, May 24, 2014 but coincided with a spell of heavy rain. The Ancholme Users' Trust had a stall in the Market Place, where the monthly farmers' market was taking place. Rowing and canoe water polo were enjoyed during the festival with people lining the County Bridge and the banks of the River Ancholme to watch the spectacle. Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy was with them. "Taster sessions" were offered to people wanting to try their hand. Brigg Blog's thanks are extended to Ken Harrison for these super pictures he took at the festival. The organisers said: "There is no better place to enjoy a day by the river than in Brigg." Clearly, they couldn't do anything about the great British weather!
