BRIGG MONUMENT REVIEW REACHES ITS CONCLUSION

The Last Post being sounded in Brigg on Remembrance Sunday at the Monument. Left, Coun the Rev Alec Depledge; second right, Andrew Percy, Brigg and Goole MP; right, Coun John Kitwood, Town Mayor.
Brigg Town Council has given careful consideration to whether further names should be added to our  Monument war memorial on the A18 and has decided there will be no additions.
Coun Ben Nobbs told the council's February meeting there was no evidence of omissions and suggested things should be left as they are. His view won wide support.
A review was considered many months ago and there has been much discussion at previous meetings of the Town Council, with careful thought being given.
The Monument carries the names of many servicemen who gave their lives for their country.
It was erected after the First World War - widely known as  the war to end all wars. However, further Brigg servicemen were to lose their lives in the decades that followed.
