THE IMPORTANCE TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY OF LINCSQUAD STAGING THE 2014 BRIGG BOMBER WORLD QUADRATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS

Brigg will be staging a world sporting event this year and will be looking not only to benefit from the high profile publicity but  to ensure our businesses enjoy a big boost resulting from the influx of competitors and spectators.
Go-ahead local group Lincsquad is to host the Keyo Brigg Bomber 2014 World Quadrathlon Championships.
This follows an invitation from the World Quadrathlon Federation, Lincsquad having already organised British and European events.
Athletes from across Europe will be coming to town on Sunday, May 25 for the world event comprising a 1.5k river swim in the Ancholme, 7k in a kayak, 36k by bike and a 10k run on roads in and around Brigg.
well-known locally, Keyo Agricultural Services are the flagship sponsors.
At the latest meeting of Brigg Town Council in the Angel Suite, Lincsquad treasurer Steve Dolby gave an extensive and informative presentation about the event.
Town Mayor Coun John Kitwood and his fellow councillors were very impressed to hear the town would be staging world championships.
Coun Rob Waltham said: "We need to look at the tourism benefits of this."
He also suggested that shops in the town needed to be open on the Sunday.
Coun Chris Dyson was confident the new Estuary TV channel serving this area would be interested in coverage.
Coun Andrew Markham asked about the need for local people to volunteer and help with stewarding, to which Steve Dolby replied: "Any help on the day would be greatly appreciated."
Ken Harrison, of Wrawby, speaking from the public gallery, stressed that North Lincolnshire Council needed to be involved, as well as the Town Council.
"It's such a prestigious event, we need a suitable camp site," he suggested.
"It will bring a lot of kudos to Brigg," Ken said of the championships.
Brigg Town Council has a major events budget and Town Clerk Jeanette Woollard said Lincsquad should supply details of the world championships for consideration when drawing up the budget for the next financial year.
