Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy being shown some of the interesting exhibits in Phase Two of the Brigg Heritage Centre by Rose Nicholson, collections manager, North Lincolnshire Council. |
He unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion and was accompanied at the ceremony by Couns Rob Waltham and Carl Sherwood, members of North Lincolnshire Council and Brigg Town Council, and by Coun Peter Clark, of Barrow, the Mayor of North Lincolnshire and former Brigg resident.
The MP thanked Couns Rob and Carl, and Coun Nigel Sherwood - the three Brigg and Wolds representative on North Lincolnshire Council - for their commitment to creating the heritage centre. He also thanked the North Lincolnshire Council staff and volunteers for their hard work.
Mr Percy said the extended heritage centre would help bring more tourists and visitors to Brigg.
The star exhibit in Phase One of the Heritage Centre is the prehistoric boat. Phase Two - now open to interest members of the public - features a host of interesting local items, ranging from Brigg Grammar School uniforms of long ago to Brigg souvenirs, catalogues and pamphlets.
As expected in the 21st century, computer terminals are provided so people of all ages can access material.
Many helpful information boards have been added inside the new section to explain aspects of Brigg history.
Many people from Brigg and the surrounding area will be popping in to have a look round Phase Two, together with visitors from further afield.
It's all to be found on the first floor at the Angel - to which a lift and stairs are provided.
