BRIGG CHRISTMAS TREE IS THE CENTRE OF ATTENTION
The 2013 communal Christmas tree in Brigg Market Place was discussed by town councillors during a committee meeting in the Angel Suite last night (Wednesday, December 11).
The Town Council provides the town centre lights but does not choose the tree.
Coun Chris Dyson was pleased with the illuminations but felt this year's tree let things down. Otherwise, he said, the Market Place "looks terrific."
Coun Mike Campion agreed, describing the tree as "unimpressive and small."
Coun Jane Kitching noted comments about the tree had been made by various people, but Town Clerk Jeanette Woollard pointed out that even if a 30ft specimen was provided the council would have insufficient lights to cover it.
Coun Rob Waltham felt the tree should be a major focal point and went on to explain that North Lincolnshire Council (of which he is a Cabinet member) is looking at the current layout of the Market Place, including the stalls.
Mrs Woollard pointed out that the Town Council had never wanted the Christmas tree in the corner of the Market Place.
