Former Brigg resident Cliff Turner - now living in New Zealand - has emailed us with very interesting Royal Family memories.
Cliff says: "Early in the 1930s the Duke and Duchess of York passed through Brigg one evening
on their way to stay at Brocklesby Hall. I can remember my Dad holding me up by
Layne's cobblers shop - opposite the Grand - to see them go by. Next day, pupils at
Glebe Road School went en masse to Wrawby Road - by the cemetery - to see them going to their
next destination."
(Brocklesby Hall, of course, being the home of the Earl of Yarborough - for the benefit of those who may not know).
Of course, Duke & Duchess of York = Prince Albert (later George VI and Queen Elizabeth (Queen Mum)
ReplyDeleteFor such a small town, Glanford Brigg has received quite a number of Royals either staying, or passing through - ie
1. Edward II
2. Henry VIII
3. Yorks - George VI
4. Prince Charles/Di
