SO BRIGG TOWN CENTRE IS STILL A ROAD
We were intrigued to see this Road Narrows sign erected by a utility company in Brigg town centre recently.
Clearly the firm agrees with Brigg Blog's long-held view that we don't really have the pedestrianised town centre we were promised all those years ago.
The gas company undertaking essential repairs was quite right to put up a road warning sign.
For our Market Place, and the adjoining section of Wrawby Street, continue to be used by many vehicles, despite the inner by-pass on the A18.
You can prove this any day by watching how many vehicles without lawful case enter the pedestrian area - in full view of the CCTV cameras.
Brigg Blog keeps expecting the powers-that-be to stamp it out by "nicking" all the offenders and publicising how much it costs them.
Methinks - and I said it before, that the old A18 route (now the pedestrianised zone, in Brigg) was never officially downgraded from a main road - this would explain the apparent difficulty of reinforcing the free-use and seemingly impossible reinforcement of the so-called traffic-free zone.
ReplyDeleteWhen they constructed the alternative Barnard Ave route there must have been public notices indicating the new road - but did these public notices also indicate the re-designation of the Market Place and Wrawby St?
It would be very useful to locate these public notices to clarify the status of the pedestrian area - there is big legal difference between someone saying that the zone is pedestrianised and the legally agreed documentation down-grading the old A18 route thro' Brigg into a legally recognised pedestrian zone.
