LOUGHBOROUGH DYNAMO 0 BRIGG TOWN FC 0 - EVO-STIK LEAGUE DIV ONE SOUTH

MATCH REPORT BY BOB TAYLOR

The pitch was declared fit after an afternoon inspection but heavy rain continued to fall throughout the game. Alan Lamb replaced the injured Anthony Bowsley in the Brigg mid field. Dynamo made the first attack with Ash Way striking a shot wide of the upright but Brigg responded with a free kick awarded for a foul on Elliott Broughton, which Alan Lamb played deep into the penalty area before it was cleared.
Then Rob Norris made a strong forward run into Brigg’s penalty area winning a left wing corner kick from which Anthony Griffith fired into the side netting.
Rob Zand held on to a long free kick but at the other end, his opposite number Laurie Pearson almost let the ball slip out of his hands under pressure from Scott Hellewell, recovering to snatch it in time.
Kris Nurse then struck Rob Zand’s cross bar with a snap shot. In end to end play, Jordan Thewlis got his head to the ball from a short distance out but Laurie Pearson was able to save comfortably.
Rob Norris struck a powerful free kick against the cross bar again and then there was a scramble in the Brigg goal area before the ball was cleared after Rob Zand saved well.
The first half closed with Jordan Thewlis again running at the home defenders but he was blocked in the penalty area.

Scott Hellewell met a free kick five minutes after the re-start but the ball went over the home cross bar.
When Dynamo attacked again, Anthony Griffith’s shot was defected wide of the goal for a corner kick. Brigg continued to look dangerous on the counter attack with Jordan Thewlis and Elliot Broughton looking lively with the ball at their feet.
Paul Grimes replaced Elliot Broughton for the last fifteen minutes and also posed problems with strong running from outside the penalty area.
Both teams continued to push for a winning goal in poor weather conditions and chances were created at both ends of the pitch but it would have been unfair for either of the teams to have scored a late winning goal after they had put so much effort into an entertaining game.
