HOW 'GREEN' ARE BRIGG BOTTLE BANK TRIPS?

The Recycling Centre operated by North Lincolnshire Council near the main car park in Brigg - off Old Courts Road
We've just made one of our regular car trips across town to deposit bottles and cans at one of the Brigg recycling centres. The fact that we have an extensive North Lincolnshire Council recycling centre off Old Courts Road, another in Tesco's car park and one at Ancholme Leisure Centre demonstrates the number of people who use them.
Clearly this is because many householders fill their moderately-sized can, bottle and newspaper boxes long before the council's fortnightly collection truck calls.
The worthy aim of all this recycling is to assist the environment by reducing the amount of rubbish deposited in landfill sites - and all governments and councils have targets to meet.
But how do we weigh up the "plus" of depositing bottles and cans in Brigg reycling boxes against the downside of fossil fuel expended on umpteen individual trips by car to Tesco and Old Courts Road?
How about North Lincolnshire Council phasing out the small recycling boxes and replacing them with bins of similar size to those currently used for plastics and cardboard? These bins should last everyone two weeks and cut out all those unnecessary cross-town Brigg journeys.
