Brigg Blog's sincere thanks are extended to our good friend Ken Harrison, of Wrawby, for these pictures of Brigg Horse Fair 2013 - held on the traditional date, August 5, on land near the town's railway station. Ken's selection ends with two interesting pictures of a traditional caravan being slowly pulled up Wrawby Hill on the way home. The Scunthorpe Telegraph was at the horse fair taking pictures, so see the issue that comes out on Thursday (Aug 8) and visit the website www.scunthorpetelegraph.co.uk for further coverage of this traditional event. In the early 13th century, Brigg was give a royal charter to hold a fair and market. The horse fair as we now know it doesn't go back that far, but in the early 21st century it remains one of the few such events in the UK to survive pretty much intact. Travellers and gypsies come from all over the north and midlands to meet up in Brigg early every August. The business end of the fair sees horses traded in the time-honoured fashion, but these days there are some stalls to add a bit of interest for the many spectators.
