A BUSY MORNING AT BRIGG STATION

Saturday morning (6th July) was a busy time at Brigg station. The first passenger train of the day at 9.20am was full as it arrived as clearly the fine hot weather had encouraged people to take the Saturdays-only NORTHERN train service to enjoy the coast at Cleethorpes.

Stuart Parker, from the Lincolnshire Ramblers, commented: "The train was already full when we boarded at Gainsborough Central so it was standing room only as more people got on at Kirton Lindsey. However, 25 people on my walk, including some from Huddersfield, Sheffield, Worksop and Retford, got off at Brigg for our walk to Kirton Lindsey. It was a pleasant but hot walk as we proceeded along the River Ancholme to Hibaldstow where the Wheatsheaf Inn proved to be a welcome refreshment stop at lunchtime.
"It was pleasing to find that most of the public footpaths had been clearly cut in across the fields as required by law. The walk finished at Mount Pleasant windmill at Kirton Lindsey for afternoon tea. A short walk down the cliff edge took us to meet the return train at 4pm ending a most enjoyable day out.  "

NF ADDS: It's great to see so many people using a train in Brigg station. Many thanks are extended to Stuart Parker and to John Musselwhite for supplying this post.

STUART PARKER
