Normally we associate such scenes with August's annual Brigg Horse Fair but there are exceptions.
There's a line in the second of the books about the history of Brigg Grammar School which makes reference to a pupil from the Low Villages riding to school every day on a horse as late as the 1930s, if memory serves me correctly. If you are thinking Nay, can't be true then we must assure you that is what's printed. And this esteemed work was edited by the legendary Dr Frank (Toddy) Henthorn, a history master very much of the old school.
