MEMORIES OF OLD BRIGG COURT AND 'COP SHOP'

Back in November 2010, North Lincolnshire Council granted planning permission for the Old Courthouse on Wrawby Street in Brigg to undergo 'change of use' to five dwellings, including alterations and extensions.
In November 2011 approval was given for a material amendment to move skylight windows to the right-hand side of the roof on Unit 5.
Brigg Blog thought it was time to take a few more progress pix and took these over Easter.
More senior site followers among you will recall that the police and court shared the building, which dates back to Victorian times. That ended in the late 1970s when the Boys in Blue got their new HQ in Barnard Avenue, but the court - left of the building on the above picture - continued to function for many years after that.
Criminal cases were heard on Wednesdays and Fridays and provided much interesting "copy" for the local press. It was not much of a walk from 57 Wrawby Street - the Lincolnshire and South Humberside Times office - to the court to report on cases of note.
Brigg courthouse did not have a Press Bench - a couple of chairs were provided along the side of the room. This was unlike Barton courthouse, where the press had an enclosed area that some fresh to legal proceedings might have taken for "the dock" where those facing summary justice were placed while the magistrates heard the evidence and retired to consider their verdict.
