Two of the shortest streets in Brigg have been flagged up by the national Crime Maps police website - www.police.co.uk - as being areas where the most offences have taken place.
To be strictly accurate, we should refer to "on or near" Garden Street, where five crimes were recorded during January, and "on or near" Preston Drive, where there were four.
For the benefit of those who may be a little unsure about locations, Garden Street connects Queen Street and Cross Street, so it's close to the town centre; Preston Drive is between Hawthorn Avenue and Grammar School Road and is best known for having a number of pensioners' bungalows.
The website explains: "Crime and outcomes are mapped to an anonymous point on or near the street or location where they occurred. This means that crimes which are displayed in your postcode or drawn area may have been committed a short distance outside of that area. Conversely, crimes which were committed in your postcode or drawn area may not be displayed."
You may recall it's not long since Brigg Blog reported how the Crime Maps website had highlighted "on or near" Grammar School Road South as our most crime-ridden street of the month. And that tiny cul-de-sac has only a couple of houses!
January is the latest month for which the all singing, all dancing computerised system can offer us information.
Even though we are halfway through March, we don't expect February's figures to appear in the public domain for a couple of weeks.
Most people in Brigg reckon our police do a fine job and we are fortunate to live in a town where crime is low in comparison with many other communities.
Having done a bit of detective work online, we have tracked down the latest available Brigg figures, which are for January and show crimes reported within a one-mile of radius of the town centre.
There were 38 crimes in total, made up as follows:
- Anti-social behaviour 10
- Burglary 9
- Criminal damage and arson 7
- "Other" theft 4
- Shoplifting 3
- Violent crime 2
- Public disorder and weapons 1
- Vehicle crime 1
- "Other" crime 1
