SAD PASSING OF BRIGG PRIZE ALLOTMENTS JUDGE

The death of Allistair Stothard - the well-known horticulturalist from Barnetby - was reported to Brigg Town Council's Property and Services Committee on Wednesday night. The Town Council will be passing on its condolences.
Mr Stothard judged Brigg's annual best-kept allotment competition, organised by the Town Council, culminating in prizes being presented each September at a ceremony in the Angel Suite.
There's a fine tribute to him in this week's Scunthorpe Telegraph.
Town Mayor Councillor Carl Sherwood said: “It is with great sadness that, on behalf of Brigg Town Council, I pay tribute to Allistair, who was the very epitome of the word 'community'.
"Despite his involvement in so many activities within his own village of Barnetby-le-Wold, Allistair also found time to perform the unenviable task of judging the annual Prize Allotment Award in Brigg, since its inception by the Town Council in 1997.
"From the outset, he was instrumental in guiding the Town Council with regard to the judging criteria that should be followed; and those people who knew Allistair would not be surprised to learn that this had to be in accordance with the Royal Horticultural Society Standards.
"Allistair will be a hard act to follow, and he will be sorely missed at this year’s Awards Ceremony in September. Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife Carol, and their family, at this sad time.”
