BRIGG AMATEUR SOCIAL HISTORIANS START NEW SEASON 'LIVING IN HOPE'
September the 4th saw the start of the new BASH season with a wonderful talk by Sue Allan entitled “Living in Hope”.
Sue’s talk was based on her book - a novel charting the true-life stories of three members of the Weatherup family of Ontario – her family. She told how she had managed to trace her family tree from England back to Canada and Ireland and used characters she found there as characters in her book.

We could legitimately call Brigg (and district) 'Brigg - The Gunpowder Plot Spot'....We have more than a fair share of Gunpowder plotters....
ReplyDeleteObviously, there are John (Jack) and Christopher Wright of Twigmoor, but Father Gerard took mass in Brigg.....and Sir Ambrose Rockwood - related to the Wright brothers, was maried to Elizabeth Tyrwhitt from Kettleby Hall....
Should we just think Brigg as a market town....which is only one aspect of its history?
For example, there is strong evidence that Brigg was the focus of a Bronze Age settlement and Civil War fortifications have been found in Brigg......
