CIRCUS MAY COME TO BRIGG IN SPRING

Brigg may be in line for a circus visit in 2012.
Pinder’s (All Human) Circus has approached Brigg Town Council to see whether there is a suitable location for a stay in town over three days next May.
When the issue was thrown into the ring at a meeting of the Town Council’s Policy Committee in the Angel Suite, Demeter House, off Bigby Street, was suggested.
Town Clerk Jeanette Woollard was told to make inquiries with Demeter House and, if that proved unsuccessful, to forward the circus’s inquiry on to North Lincolnshire Council.
In the early 1960s, a circus came to Brigg Recreation Ground, then a facility operated by Brigg Urban District Council. As a boy, I can remember attending one of the shows. This circus featured performing animals, about which there seemed to be little or no debate half-a-century ago.
Circus Boy was also a very popular programme on TV during the same era. Didn’t its young star follow a clearly defined career path from the circus to become one of the Monkees?
Along similar lines, Billy Smart fronted a world-famous circus, while Bill Smart was a well-known and long-serving Brigg councillor.
