Efforts are being made to organise a street party on Brigg's Woodbine Estate, to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next June.
Coun Jane Kitching is welcoming expressions of interest and suggestions.
This idea follows unsuccessful attempts to form a Residents' Association for Hawthorn Avenue (PICTURED ABOVE), Woodbine Avenue, Central Square and East Parade.
That failed due to lack of interest.

NF adds: Hearing the phrase "Woodbine Estate" used by Coun Jane brought back memories. It's a long time since I've heard it mentioned. It is, however, perfectly correct as a description of this area of Brigg.

Be careful that celebrations don't become fragmented and uncoordinated.
ReplyDeleteFor example, I understand that Cllr Shelia Boughley has been pursuing
the possibility of a wider community event.
From a personal perspective, I feel that things and events happen in and around Brigg, but many are uncoordinated. Organisers seem happy to just advertise the event - often in obscure places - hoping people will respond - but will fail to encompass other sectors of the community.
For example, a vintage car event was held on a Sunday during the summer, but many people were not aware it.
It seems that the only business to benefit from the event was Scalini's, but the chippie only opened on the Sunday after Stavros casually overhead a customer talking about it.
There are many events that could become significant if only they were coordinated and promoted to attract a wider range of interest and involvements from both spectators and retailers.
Quite right, Ken: Send details to Brigg Blog and Brigg People and we'll be happy to help publicise all events, as best we can.
