RECAPTURING FLAVOUR OF THE GOODIE BINNS ERA

A specialist sweet shop earmarked for Brigg town centre deserves to do very well.
We were pleased to chat to Natalie Sankey while she was busy painting the outside of the former Waters’ butcher’s shop in Wrawby Street on Saturday morning.
The old shop is being transformed into what she describes as an old-fashioned sweet shop and is due to open on September 19/20.
Have you been around long enough to recall when jars and jars of humbugs, sherbert lemons and wine gums lined the shelves?
Older Brigg folk will be aware that almost immediately across the street from Natalie’s new shop stood “Goodie” Binns’ locally famous sweetie emporium – a favoured stopping off point for children over many, many years.
Goodie’s old shop now forms part of Brigg Fruit and Veg.
Miss White had a similar sweetie shop down Bridge Street.
Are you old enough to remember them?

Natalie doing a spot of painting, answering questions from passers-by and talking to us. The last pictures show what was once Goodie Binns' shop (across the street from Natalie's) and an old butcher's advertising panel unearthed on her shop front while it was being revamped.
