Even I know that you don't secure horses to an object with a lead rope. In a panic situation a horse, even a small pony, can exert great power and in such a situation, a horse needs to be able to break away...otherwise it can cause quite serious injury to itself. Horse owners normally tie their horses to a loop of (orange) baling twine to the securing ring...the twine is the intentional weak link and the horse can break-away if spooked.
