PINGLEY CAMP CONCERNS

Reservations about some aspects of the redevelopment of the former Pingley Camp site, on the outskirts of Brigg, have been voiced by town councillors.
The huts, off Bigby High Road, which housed German and Italian prisoners of war during the 1940s and later many seasonal agricultural workers from central Europe, were demolished and the site is now being revamped through a scheme approved by West Lindsey District Council.
House-building is already under way at the back of the site, but West Lindsey District Council planners are now considering the following application:
Outline permission for erection of 20 live-work units – phase two – access to be considered and not reserved for subsequent applications. All other matters reserved.
We understand “live-work” means residents using their homes as the location for earning a living.
As this application refers to a site bordering Brigg, the Town Council has been consulted, prompting discussion at the latest meeting of the Planning and Environment Committee, held in the Angel Suite.
Town Mayor Coun Benn Nobbs, chairman of the committee, expressed concerns about surface drainage from the site and where it could go.
Coun Tom Glossop added: “It’s one of those flood risk areas. And because of the proximity to Brigg, I’d have thought North Lincolnshire Council would have had some comment to make.”
Coun Ann Eardley was worried about road safety. Due to the access to the housing development being off Bigby High Road, she pointed out it would mean more vehicles turning off, and onto, the main road – already “an accident blackspot” due to the speed of traffic.
The committee agreed to pass on its observations to West Lindsey planners on surface water drainage, flood risk and road safety.
Gainsborough-based West Lindsey District Council will now rule on the application.

Brigg Town Council – the first stage in the planning process – has raised no objections to the following applications, which will be decided by North Lincolnshire Council:
3 Old School Close: Permission to erect a detached dwelling with conservatory (amended house type).
Spring’s Parade: Consent to display a wall-mounted hoarding sign, Lidl Supermarket.
27 Market Place: Advertisement consent to display non-illuminated signage, HSBC.
1 Ridge View: Extensions to house.
