Brigg households will have to pay only very small increases to fund their Town Council’s work during the 2011/12 financial year, which starts in April.
Taking that rise into account, the total payable to Brigg Town Council will range from less than £1 a week to about £2.50 – depending on what council tax band you live in.
The council, based in the Angel Suite, has produced what Coun Mike Campion (pictured) describes as a “standstill budget” and one that is “sound.”
This will mean increases ranging from just 70p A YEAR for homes in council tax Band A to £2.12p for those in Band H.
However, the part of your council tax bill taken to fund Brigg Town Council forms a very small proportion of each household’s £1,000-plus total – the lion’s shares going to North Lincolnshire Council and to fund major services like policing and fire.
There will be more than 1,700 households in Brigg contributing to funding the Town Council’s budget of £117,000 for the next financial year.
The Town Council operates the Christmas lights, gives small grants (usually up to £250) to local groups in need, manages our allotments, funds projects like refurbishment of the Monument (war memorial) and and pays for additional litter and dog waste bins.
It also contributes to the 3Bs Project which offers a range of events and activities for teenagers, backs major events like the Music and Drama Festival and the Christmas Fair, and supports the Brigg in Bloom initiative to add colour to the town through flower beds, borders and hanging baskets.
The Town Council’s funding (precept) is collected on its behalf by North Lincolnshire Council, which in days gone by would have been called the rating authority (no rates any more, of course!).
Here’s what Brigg households will pay for the 2011/12 financial year, starting in April. In brackets were have included what you are paying in 2009-10.
