MILITARY HISTORY AT SERVICEMEN'S CLUB
By Pat Parkinson,
Brigg Amateur Social Historians
Brigg Servicemen’s Club was the venue for James Darby’s presentation to BASH – a talk on The London Irish Rifles at Anzio.
James began by giving us the background of how the landings at Anzio came
about. He used slides and various things from the battle to illustrate the
presentation and his talk was very well received by the BASH crowd. He
finished by answering questions from the audience.
During his talk James wore the uniform of the London Irish. He also had all
of an infantryman’s, at least 70 lbs, of equipment on display, which was
fascinating to see and actually handle. His father had been in the battalion
and James had also bought his medals along.
The next BASH meeting will be a talk by Bill Brocklesby on “The Life & Times
of Katherine Howard (including her visit to Lincolnshire in 1541)” on March 1.
The photograph shows, from left to right: Dawn West, James Darby (speaker), Chris Witty (BASH committee), Steve Cook and Alex Elmore. Picture kindly supplied by Phil Allen.
