TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION

Gary Smith's posting earlier today about the only entrance road to Brigg's Springbank estate being blocked by snow should be taken down and used in evidence if North Lincolnshire Council continues to ignore concerted pressure for a second access road off Churchill Avenue (especially now the planners look like supporting further housing off Wrawby Road).
Perhaps an ambulance or fire engine might make it through the snow to this well-populated estate, but what about a doctor's car? And what if the weather gets even worse?
We hope the Couns Sherwood and Berry - our reps on North Lincolnshire Council - will make mental notes and have a word in the right ear when the time comes. Better still, print off Brigg Blog's postings today. Council chiefs always prefer things in writing...and if all three councillors do it, that will be in triplicate. You can't beat that!

  2. The Big Question:
Would NLC approve Tesco's applicaion which had only one car-park access/exit?
I'm sure that the Highways Dept would have something to say.
The estates north of Barnard Ave is not just a car park - I would guess that that at least one-third of Brigg population reside in the area. The area also contains 3 schools (one only which can be accessed in an emergency from an alternative route).
As we continously find a major disaster is a result of a combination of relatively simple faults.
An obvious weakness to the area's emergency infrastructure is the limiting access route. All it would take to isolate the area
is a trauma about Grammar School and Glebe Rd.
I would go further than you, Nige. It wouldn't really take much to create a road to the east, but Ancholme Way is a developing industrial area; its importance is likely to increase if and when NLC allocates Island Carr for housing.
A proper strategic plan is required, which should include a second river x-ing (wot will happen if the road bridge is closed?) and a study to access the benefits of a motorway access at the top of Ancholme Way. (wot applies to Springbank Estate also affects the Ancholme industrial estate)
Overall, Brigg doesn't have an integrated network route system; it has one arterial route (A18) with linear off-shoots - and this is both a trauma and restrictive development weakness.
