SNOW NEWS LATEST: "Brigg market will not open tomorrow. Brigg Library and Brigg Local Link are closed today." That information has just been received from North Lincolnshire Council.
Friday night's Brigg Christmas lights switch-on: Brigg Town Council has yet to make a decision, but will inform us when one is made, so we can let you know on Brigg Blog.
The scene about 6.15pm last night in Brigg Market Place. Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol?
Bridge Street - outside Simon Ho's China Royal.
Accumulated snow on Mrs Fisher's washing line first thing this morning.
We must have had six inches of snow overnight in Brigg, though it's difficult to judge, in view of the drifting factor. However, what's been deposited on top of our cars must give a fair indication. The winters of 1947 and 1963 saw prolonged snowfalls over long periods, but did they have a 24-hour spell when so much of the white stuff fell on Brigg as we've just encountered?
Accidents last night added to our road problems, resulting in vehicles using the A18 through Brigg which would otherwise have gone on the M180. This resulted in long tailbacks of traffic and (about 6pm) it took me 10 minutes just to get out of St Helen's Road, in the car, and as far as The Monument. Snow was falling very heavily at this time and, having parked up in Spring's Parade, I took a few pictures looking across the Market Place and down Bridge Street.
This morning, Brigg folk woke up, drew back the curtains and were surprised, if not exactly shocked, to see just how much snow had fallen. Some Brigg shops have failed to open today - so far - but many traders have managed to get through. Just after we'd taken pictures of the scene in the Market Place, a tractor arrived to start clearing some of the drifts.
Keep watching Brigg Blog for updates on the situation.
