MARKET LANE LATEST

The saga of Market Lane, Brigg, continues to drag on, as it has for the best part of a year since metal gates appeared where the lane meets the Market Place.
At this week's meeting of the planning and environment committee, Town Mayor Coun Ben Nobbs updated fellow town councillors on the slow progress being made by North Lincolnshire Council - still to come to a conclusion about whether Market Lane is, or is not, a public right of way.
Coun Nobbs now hopes North Lincolnshire Council might get there in time for Christmas.
At Wednesday night's meeting it was suggested North Lincolnshire Council seemed to be trying to establish not only whether Market Lane was a public right of way, but also ownership and whether it was a highway.
Coun Nobbs made it clear all he wanted to establish was people's right to walk along it.
North Lincolnshire Council has received "evidence" from a number of people about Market Lane in decades gone by, including, it appears, someone involved with repairs carried out to the surface during the days of the old Brigg Urban District Council (prior to 1974). North Lincs staff are also seeking information from archives - county and national.
