"Yours truly" is giving a talk tomorrow night (Tuesday Nov 2) to the monthly meeting of Brigg Amateur Social Historians (BASH) at Brigg Servicemen's Club, Coney Court (8pm). My subject is The History of the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
Just pop along if you fancy a trip down memory lane and wish to learn how your local paper came into being and has developed down the decades.
Hopefully the audience will find the anecdotes and memories of interest.
Many thanks to Josie Webb and her BASH committee for the return invitation. Our last appearance, in autumn 2009, concentrated on the History of the Lincolnshire Times - a talk which, some years earlier, had been delivered to a very early BASH meeting at the White Horse (possibly THE very first).
We recall another presentation on Lincolnshire Railways and also fronted a question and answer session/talk on Pingley Camp (also at the White Horse).
Tomorrow evening's History of the Scunthorpe Telegraph will include an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and offer their own memories of the paper, if they wish. We will be bringing along some old copies of the paper for people to read, plus some images of the past.
We'd love to receive any old pictures of the past people bring along which could be used in future editions of the Scunthorpe Telegraph's Nostalgia mgazine or the Monday Nostalgia page. We will scan them in to the Telegraph's computer system and let you have them back right away.
IF YOU ARE CONNECTED WITH A GROUP, OR SOCIETY, AND WANT US TO POP OVER AND GIVE A TALK ON ANY OF THE ABOVE SUBJECTS, PLEASE EMAIL scoopfisher@aol.com FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
